WASHINGTON – Election eve 2016 began without any real sign of a gathering storm. No hint a popular revolt was brewing. In fact, just the opposite.
The networks were reporting the mood in the inner circle of the Republican candidate was subdued, somber, tense, even foreboding – as if fearing the worst.
In direct contrast, the mood in the camp of the Democratic Party presidential candidate was described as confident, expectant and already almost celebratory.

History will be made no matter how the vote turns out. Clinton would become the first woman to win the presidency in the 240-year history of the United States. A Trump triumph would represent a massive repudiation of the Washington establishment not seen in generations.

In the next few days, a discussion about one of the main causes of the greatest injustices of our time, corporate abuse [1], is taking place. And despite having been warmly invited to take part, EU countries have chosen to ignore it.
For the first time in history we could have a way to internationally clamp down on corporate abuses. A new global treaty would introduce legally binding rules for corporations. But despite having support from most countries in the United Nations, every EU country is boycotting this treaty [2]. Granted, this is but a first step. But it is one that thousands of people have longed for for decades, and which can help us start change.
Let’s send a strong message to our leaders. The European Parliament already issued a resolution urging EU countries to engage in this global discussion [3], and right now a global coalition of movements, backed by thousands of people in Europe, are working together to up the pressure. In a big action next Thursday, we will let our representatives know what we think before they meet to discuss this treaty.

Next Thursday, the European Parliament’s Industry Committee will vote whether to make the corporate polluters pay, or let them off the hook. But there is a danger that backroom deals with lobbyists will destroy our chance to hold the dirty industry to account. We must act now and make our parliamentarians hear the voices of Europeans over the whispers of the lobbyists – if we don’t, we will be letting the polluters get away with it, and allowing lobbyists to dictate our policies.
The law is now up for review in the European Parliament, but the proposal is dangerously weak. It is up to our MEPs to stand up to the industry and speak for the European people and vote for a strong and ambitious law. But they need to hear our demands first – so let’s make them!

This means 10,000 children without food, without shelter, and without love. 10,000 children who are scared, vulnerable, and alone. 10,000 children who should be at school, out playing, and having fun. Instead, they are missing, at risk from violence, and exploitation.
From Ireland to Italy, and from Brussels to Berlin, right across Europe our political leaders are failing to act. They are running scared of populist politicians who are using Europe’s refugee crisis for political gain. Europe’s leaders will continue to ignore these vulnerable children unless we demand they take action.
Can you help protect missing children? Sign now.
