A 23-year-old contestant from Brooklyn, N.Y., has won the title of Miss America 2013.
Mallory Hagan won the Las Vegas beauty pageant Saturday night after tap dancing to James Brown’s “Get Up Off of That Thing” and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying we should not fight violence with violence.

DIAMOND DAYS is a feature-length narrative film about a lonely Bulgarian playwright named Krasimira and her first visit to Kentucky to see the English-language premiere of her latest play. In the bluegrass state she takes a tour of a world-famous horse farm and meets a restless young woman who dreams of leaving Kentucky for good. The lead actor of Krasimira’s autobiographical play is a recently divorced actor attempting to impress his distant 13 year-old daughter by showing her the “glamour” of a regional theater production. In four whirlwind days, Krasimira learns the meaning of “southern hospitality” and makes friends amongst an alien culture.

Last night, Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives joined the Senate in passing the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. That means middle-class families won’t see an increase in their income tax rates. We’ve avoided the fiscal cliff.
President Obama will sign the legislation soon. Last night, he described the agreement as, “one step in the broader effort to strengthen our economy and broaden opportunity for everybody.”

Illinois home sales increased 30.6% over previous-year levels in November and median prices increased 7.7% , according to the Illinois Association of REALTORS®.
„Statewide home sales (including single-family homes and condominiums) in November 2012 totaled 10,135 homes sold, up from 7,758 in November 2011.

In December, the world’s governments will convene for the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT), a meeting hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a UN agency.
Some governments’ proposals at the WCIT pose a threat to the internet’s openness and the exercise of human rights online. We need to work together now to ensure that such proposals concerning the internet are rejected in Dubai. The shroud of secrecy surrounding the conference makes the outcome unpredictable and is indicative of why the WCIT presents a significant threat to the internet. The danger of allowing governments to make decisions about the internet behind closed doors with no transparency or accountability is simply too great.

The European Parliament is holding Wednesday a seminar focusing on corruption practices in Member States.
The presentation on Bulgaria will be delivered by Bulgarian journalists Atanas Tchobanov and Assen Yordanov, founders of the site for investigative journalism Bivol.bg (Биволъ), which is also the official partner of WikiLeaks for Bulgaria, and by human rights activist, Petar Penchev, from the Association for Free Speech Anna Politkovskaya.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, I want to welcome Prime Minister Borissov to the White House, and his delegation from Bulgaria. I have to say at the outset that Bulgaria has proven to be one of our most outstanding NATO allies.
Obviously, there are very strong bonds between our two countries, including many Bulgarian Americans in my hometown of Chicago. It reminds us of the strong people-to-people relationship between the United States and Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has arrived in Washington for his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, scheduled for Monday December 3. The meeting will also be attended by Bulgarian ministers of interior – Tsvetan Tsvetanov, foreign affairs – Nikolay Mladenov, and security – Anyu Angelov.
