The number of Greeks who have contracted the West Nile virus has risen to 32, the centre for disease control and prevention said in a media statement cited by the Greek daily Kathimerini on August 13.
For the moment, the virus had not spread to Bulgaria, as the Health Ministry said it has not detected any cases of the West Nile virus in the country.

Bulgaria-born Canadian actress Nina Dobrev has received two 2010 Teen Choice Awardsfor the TV show “The Vampire Diaries”, where she has the lead role.
At a ceremony Monday night in Los Angeles, Dobrev received the awards for TV Actress in Fantasy/Sci-Fi and for TV Show in the same category.

The beach town of Kavarna, Bulgaria is no longer just a popular resort for tourists. Yesterday the IAAF announced Kavarna will host the World Half Marathon Championships in 2012.

The Bulgarian swimmer Mihail, aka Mike, Alexandrov, has won a US national swimming contest as a US sports citizen.
Alexandrov, who has a Bulgarian, as well as US citizenship, has won the gold medal at the men’s 100m breaststroke in Irvine, California, USA with a time of 1:00.26 min, leaving behind the expected winners Mark Gangloff, a gold medalist at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and Eric Shanteau, another US Olympic swimmer.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has praised famous comedian Dimitar Tudzharov, akaShkumbata, who will be appointed a new Bulgarian consul in Chicago, Illinois.

A website of the Bulgarian community in the USA has launched a new poll calling upon Bulgarians to choose the Bulgarian event in the USA for 2010.
You can find the poll at the website of the Bulgarian Media Portal in Chicago,www.eurochicago.com .

Parts of St. John the Baptist‘s relics might have been discovered during archaeological excavations in Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea town of Sozopol, report Bulgarian media.
Archaeologists investigating the Sv. Ivan (St. John) island off Sozopol have found an exquisite reliquary – a relic urn – built in the altar of an ancient church bearing the name ofSt. John the Baptist
The reliquary has the shape of a sarcophagus and is dated end of 4th – beginning of 5th c. AD. It was discovered by the team of Prof. Kazimir Popkonstantinov.
