New York will enjoy Bulgarian films: tonight, Yavor Gurdev will personally promote his movie Dzift, which opens the Seventh International Film Festival (December 8 -December 13).
In the meantime, the producers of the movie have confirmed the news that they already prepare to sign a contract with an US company, which plans to make a remake of the movie, awarded a series of prestigious international film prizes.
The US version of „Dzift“ will be shot in America with American actors. Yavor Gurdev has departed for New York along with famous Bulgarian producer Dimitar Gochev, Kamen Kalev with „Eastern Plays,“ Svetoslav Ovcharov with „The Only Love Story, that Hemingway Failed to Describe,“ and leading actress Gergana Pletnyova.
The movie „Ratzi“ (Crabs) by Ivan Cherkelov, a film whose premiere took place not long ago, as well as „The Goat“ by Georgi Dyulgerov are the other movies which will be offered to the attention of the American audience. The movie „Prognosis“ by Zornitsa Sofia and the Bulgarian-Serbian-Bosnian co-production „Saint George Kills the Dragon,“ by Sergyan Dragojevic, will close the festival’s bill.

The film tells the remarkable story of Shevket Chapadjiev from Chicago, who has started his career as a poor emigrant from a small Bulgarian village and today happens to be one of the richest people on the continent. The Chapadjiev family are expected as special guests at the forum.
Other titles of documentaries worth the spectators’ attention are: „Cuba Is Music“ by Iliyan Djevelekov, „Hurry-Scurry,“ by Andrey Slabakov, „Corridor N8“, by Boris Despodov.
Martichka Bozhilova will present short films  from the series „15“ – cinematic novels, created by 15 famous Bulgarian authors working in the fields of cinema, theatre and contemporary art and revealing the developments in Bulgaria in the last 15 years.
For the first time, the audience will enjoy the opportunity to vote for its favourite film at this festival. The director, who succeeds in winning the spectators’ hearts, will receive a bonus of 1000 US dollars.
The festival has been organized and realized by  Zhana Karaivanova’s Foundation for Bulgarian-American cultural exchange.
„Bulgaria plays a key part in South-eastern Europe. From now on, the festival will develop in this direction,“ explained the actress, who has been living in the USA for many years.
